With a stunning cathedral and plenty more beautiful gothic buildings to explore, Fribourg is a stunning place to explore. There are plenty of nooks and crannies in which to get lost, bookstores and cafes, and a vibrant atmosphere created by the student population in this university town. Make sure to get a spot of history by taking in the old fortified walls and marvelling at the architecture of the Middle Ages when in Fribourg. For those who love flowers, Fribourg is a dream. The Fribourg Botanical Gardens are an awesome place in which to spend the afternoon. There are over 5000 different species of plants and shrubs here spread across 20 different zones. Linked to the local University, the Botanical Gardens offer guided tours upon request and showcase a wide variety of alpine species, as well as more exotic plants and flowers. If you wish to see more organised floral arrangements, the Bern Botanical Gardens are a mere 30 minutes away by car and offer plenty for flower lovers young and old. Of course, there are plenty of alpine plants on display here, as can best be expected. But there is also an excellent collection of exotic and non-native species as well. There are over 1500 species of Alpine plants and shrubs on display. There are also greenhouses housing exotic ferns and other heat loving shrubs, and a floral themed café at which you can sit back and relax after exploring. If you have a car and are in Fribourg during April and May you will not be wasting your time if you take a little trip to Morges, just under an hour away. The annual tulip festival is held here and is a real treat. There are 300 different types here planted around the castle. It makes for great photograph opportunities so make sure to bring your camera!
