Yurigahara Park
It’s hard to imagine. Six thousand, four hundred different kinds of flowers and plants all in one garden. Well, the garden is the 25.4 hectare (almost 63 acre) Yurigahara Park in Kita-ku in Sapporo.
The park is simply too large to walk through all at once so they have built a comfortable train that runs throughout the park, affording a leisurely pace, a comfortable ride, and still an excellent view of whatever seasonal flowers are in bloom at the time.
There are several unique flower beds, with the highlight being the “World Lily Gardens”. In the “World Lily Gardens” there are over 100 different kinds of lilies from all over the world. The curators have collected these spectacular blooms from across the globe, especially from the sister cities of Shen Yang in China, Munich in Germany and Portland in the United States.
Four very different styles of gardens have been created, all in collaboration with the sister cities. Within the 4 gardens there are flowers blooming every single day, from the spring time until the snow flies in the winter again.
The Lily Train is a must ride, to get a clear view of all the gardens throughout the vast park grounds. Stop at the restaurant in Yurigahara Park in Kita-ku at Sapporo and try a lily bulb, because lily flowers are not just beautiful, the bulbs are also delicious.
