For flowers and plants in Altona, head over to the impressive Planten un Blomen Park. This is a favorite spot at which to picnic, walk and enjoy pleasant summer days, and locals and visitors alike enjoy the scenic atmosphere in this park. Incorporating the city’s old botanical flower gardens, Planten um Blomen is a flower lover’s paradise. Aside from the outdoor attractions, there are five huge greenhouses on site, containing some really interesting exotic plants, palms and eucalyptus trees. There is a gorgeous rose garden which is at is best in the summer, as well as plenty of other pleasant flower beds along which to stroll in both the spring and summer months. The rose flower garden is actually home to over three hundred different varieties of roses. There is also a tiny museum explaining all about roses, and lots of pleasant romantic places to sit and enjoy their fragrant scents. Elsewhere in Planten um Blomen visitors will be enchanted with the Japanese garden and the associated tea house, and kids will enjoy the many different play areas. Altona is a lovely place to explore in Hamburg, with lots of interesting things to do and see. If you get good weather, head up to the Altona Balcony for some excellent views over the area and then treat yourself to lunch or a coffee in an artisan bakery or trendy coffee shop. Altona is a great base for exploring all that fantastic Hamburg has to offer the tourist, so set out early to check them out! Those travelling with children - and indeed those without - will also be delighted with Speicherstadts Miniature Wonderland which has lots of miniature towns from Germany, Austria, Italy and beyond, including moving parts! It’s a real treat to behold when visiting Hamburg. Make sure you also take a tour of the harbor area by boat to get a really good vista of the city.
