Ismailia is a beautiful Egyptian garden city. It is famous for lovely flower gardens, orchards and delightfully scenic views. This is not really an international tourist destination, but nearby Egyptians find the city to be a change of scenery for local vacations.
They often visit the Museum of Ismailia which displays ancient Egyptian, Coptic, Greek, Islamic and Roman architectural exhibits. There is also a museum dedicated to the man who developed the Suez Canal, De Lesseps which includes his personal items, even his carriage.
Since Ismailia lies to the west of one of the largest lakes in Egypt, the Al-Temsah Lake, there is some moisture in this desert area to irrigate the gardens.
Wild Chrysanthemums and their cultivated cousins are perennial plants that are commonly found in the garden beds of Ismailia and other Egyptian cities. The wild ones, also known as ‘mums’, are most commonly a bright butter yellow colour, whereas the carefully bred specimens are often white or red, as well as the yellow. These are one of the most sought after varieties of perennial flowers.
