Matsudo is situated just outside of Tokyo and is a gem to explore. There is an interesting shrine here, as well as the Hondo Temple which boasts thousands and thousands of gorgeous hydrangea in the early summer months. Matsudo is of course also a great base from which to explore the wider Tokyo area and all of its associated attractions. Matsudo is for example well located to reach the area of Shinagawa, known for its’ peaceful parks and flower gardens, Shinagawa is a favourite spot to sit and watch the flowers fall from the cherry blossom trees. The locals also like to sit and enjoy a picnic in the form of a bento box as they chat and enjoy the atmosphere as winter turns in to spring. Nearby to Matsudo there is also the area of Meguro, another favourite cherry blossom flower viewing spot. Those in the know here will head over to the banks of the river to check out the falling petals. If you are in the market for checking out flowers then once you have walked the riverbank you can head over to the Sky Garden in Meguro which offers a nice selection of plants, flowers and trees. Of course, Japan is known for its cherry blossom trees which in Japanese are called “Sakura”. There is even a town called Sakura near to Matsudo which offers beautiful selections of cherry blossom trees whose flowers make for stunning photographs. Matsudo is really near to lots of great flower sights including the Nougyou Kouen Park at Mitaka-shi - host to a fantastic yearly cherry blossom festival and adored by locals and visitors alike for its’ fabulous bursts of colour.
