Suginami-ku is a district in Tokyo which may not usually attract many tourists - it’s an authentic part of the city where you can pop into cafes, restaurants and boutiques and get a real feel for the heart of the area. There is also an interesting animation museum which would be worth a stop. Of course, the situation near to Tokyo offers the visitor the chance to explore the wider area with ease. Suginami-ku is close to Meguro which has a lovely rivers edge along which you should definitely take a strol. If you are a flower lover then wait until spring until you visit - then your walk will be blanketed with pink flower petals that fall to the ground. Once you have had your fill of cherry blossom flowers then head on over to the Meguro Sky Garden and its’ beautiful collection of flowers and plants, as well as its interesting architecture. Suginami-ku is also not far from the area of Shinagawa which is a pleasant part of town known for its calm atmosphere and lots of flower parks and gardens in which locals like to gather and watch the cherry blossom flowers fall to the ground. You may also see them tucking in to a bento box at the same time! Finally, the area of Sakura just happens to be the same name given to the cherry blossom tree that makes Japan famous. In fact, Suginami-ku is well located to check out a number of flower related attractions for all, including Mitaka-shi which is known Japan-wide for its excellent cherry blossom flower festival. Held every year in the Nougyou Kouen Park, this festival showcases the gorgeous flowers on the trees and attracts visitors for miles around.
