Belleville is a city in Ontario which usually doesn't feature on a tourist itinerary, but does have several interesting things to see if you find yourself in the area. There is an annual Belleville Waterfront and Ethnic Festival which brings up to two hundred thousand people to the city every year. Apart from that, you can check out a lot of nearby attractions. The Zwick Centennial Park is a nice place to spend the afternoon - bring a picnic if you can - there is plenty of shade here amongst the trees and a great children's play area. If you are on the lookout for flowers when in Belleville then check out the Vanderwarter Conservation Area - this is a great place at which to experience native flora of the area. Riverside Park hosts a number of purple wildflowers which can be viewed in the spring months. Wildflowers native to Ontario include alfalfa, bee balm and blazing star. These, amongst others such as the bloodroot and bur marigolds, can be seen all along the walking trails in the spring months and make for excellent photo opportunities. Whether you want to hike to get some fresh air or are a wildflower spotter, Belleville is a great base from which to explore the area.
