Of course, like many old Swiss towns, the Altstadt (or old town) is a monument in itself and should be explored at leisure. There are little cafes and restaurants spilling out onto cobbled streets here, and the gothic architecture is simply stunning. If you want to get out of town on a day trip, the Rhine Waterfall is a nice place to visit and makes for excellent photo opportunities. If you want to see flowers and green spaces when in Schaffhausen then check out the fabulous rose garden in Munot. This rose garden is small but affords beautiful views over the town. There are almost two hundred different species of rose plants here, as well as well-tended shrubs, trees and hedges. This is a fragrant place in which to spend an hour relaxing.
