There is lots to do in Waco for all the family. The famous and huge Magnolia Market is the place to head for all your retail therapy, and the Cameron Park Zoo will keep the kids entertained. Outdoor space is provided at the Cameron Park, which is a great place to explore. Spread over hundreds of acres the park offers fitness fanatics the chance to exercise and those who wish to take life at a more leisurely place will find lots of lovely picnic spots here too. The Lake Waco Wetlands are about a 20 minute drive away and offer the nature lover lots of scenic photo opportunities and one of the best places at which to spot wildflowers in Waco – look out for the American Basketflower and the Hairy Yellow Aster. About a 50 minute drive from Waco is Killeen. Here, check out the developing Killeen Municipal Court Garden. This project, set up by the local community in cooperation with the government, is a real rehabilitation opportunity for young offenders. Boasting lovely native flowers and shrubs, including cacti and well-tended flower beds, the garden gives those who need a second chance the opportunity to learn some new skills and to create something they can be proud of. From growing fruit and vegetables to delivering to homeless shelters to planting beautiful flowers, the gardens provide a real opportunity for some of the local youths under the watchful care of well-seasoned gardeners who are happy to pass on their advice.
