Back in the 1970s when I was a kid, my mum brought me to Etherow Country Park in Stockport. I ran around, checking out the birds and flowers, until finally late in the afternoon I would fall asleep. I slept in the car on the way home, barely had tea, and went to bed for the greatest night’s sleep in my life.
Now I think bringing my children to Etherow Country Park is brilliant. Sometimes mum comes with us and we sit and reminisce about those times while the kids play and feed the ducks and geese with the seeds we pick up at the cafe. There is over 200 species of different plants on 240 acres of land so it is little wonder why it is one of the most popular parks in Stockport.
My husband likes angling so he gets a license and follows all of the park rules, even the one that says no fishing after dark.
We went sailing once on a friend’s boat and love to watch the model boat club with their miniatures on the lake. Breakfast at the cafe was ideal the day we went sailing since we had to wait a bit for the boat to be ready.
We don’t have a dog, but there are often people walking theirs at the park. I have wandered amongst the flowers while mum watches the kids for a few minutes and seen many very happy puppies wandering the trail with us.
It is still a lovely place for a picnic or a quiet wander about even 40 years later.
