Cherry Blossoms are abundant in the city because of their importance to the culture of the Japanese. Abou 1,200 of three different species of cherry trees are surrounding Hikone Castle. The plum trees that bear blossoms just as beautiful as the cherry trees are highly regarded by the Chinese because of their ability to withstand cold climates and the passing of time. They represent strength and endurance.
