Orchids, Crown of Thorns Plant, marigolds, and zinnia are flowers growing in Taytay, Rizal.
There are about 900 species of orchids that are growing in the Philippines. One such orchid is the waling-waling, and it is ‘The Queen of Philippine Orchids” because it is the rarest of all orchids in the country. The Bagobo tribe treats it as a supernatural being and worships it as a part of their spiritual beliefs. The Crown of Thorns or the Eurphorbia can survive as both a houseplant and as a garden plant. It has pink flowers that have been a subject of superstition where its number on the plant determines the owner’s luck. Keep them away from pets since it is poisonous. Marigolds are not just beautiful ornamental flowers. Chickens fed with marigold gives their eggs bright yolks and treats it with macular degeneration. Although it has no scientific confirmation, some gardeners will plant marigolds near veggie patches to ward off insects. Zinnias commonly grow up to 3 ft, they grow quickly and are butterfly magnets.
