There are plenty of lovely parks and gardens in and around Portsmouth if you wish to take in some floral attractions or enjoy some sunny weather. The grounds of Stansted Flower Park are worth a visit - the stately home is open to the public and features an Arboretum as well as a charming walled garden boasting many beautiful plants and flowers. The walled garden is a peaceful place to sit and enjoy the atmosphere and there is also a children’s play park boarded by pleasant plants and shrubs. Elsewhere, Staunton Country Park is another fantastic place to visit. It is a place to which to take the kiddies, with a little working farm on site as well as a climbing wall and play area. The Victorian Greenhouse here features coconut trees and banana plants, as well as the Amazon Water Lily, which visitors can see on display in the summer months in full bloom in the ponds. There are lots of exotic plants and flowers on display in the greenhouses for those that are interested in checking out different species of plants, so it is well worth a visit to this charming stately home and gardens.
Waterfront Portsmouth will keep you busy. Ship lovers will have a great time down at the Dockyard, exploring not only the HMS Victory but also a number of other warships and boats open to the public. Gun wharf Quays is near here - this area is the entertainment hub of the city and includes shopping, restaurants and bowling alley. The D Day Museum is a must, as is the Portsmouth City Museum, whilst Cumberland House is the place to visit to learn more about the natural history of the area.
