Also know as the “Garden City” it is hard not to see flowers in bloom in Toowoomba. Beautifully designed flower beds can be found throughout the city, along with spectacular floats and decorations. A large sunflower heads are used to make a gigantic flower on top of a float decorated with orange marigolds and yellow, orange and violet pansies. Roses of every color can be found growing together or mixed in with other flowers, and the same is true for petunias that can even be found hanging in baskets. In the springtime the flower beds are filled with snapdragons and marigolds. There are also pentas, verbena surrounded by low growing cuphea. Mums of every variety are another favorite in the gardens, along with tall amaryllis and alliums. Like the rest of the country Toowoomba residents also love the sight of the giant purple and white agapanthus which can be found growing in almost every public and private garden. Other popular flowers in Toowoomba include bottlebrush and azalea bushes. In the city’s markets one can find many of these flowers for sale, including canola, lilies and small ixora bushes.
