La Chaux-de-Fonds Fiori Fiorista

Previously known for its watch making history, La Chaux-de-Fonds is a UNESCO Heritage Site which has an unusual design thanks to having been almost completely destroyed and rebuilt in the 1800s. Due to its watch making past, La Chaux-de-Fonds has a museum completely dedicated to the trade. The area of course has all the great things that Switzerland has to offer - hiking in the summer and skiing in the winter. For those who are out to spot some of Switzerland’s wildflower and alpine flower beauties, there area around La Chaux-de-Fonds boasts dozens of floral attractions from spring through fall. Biele is about 45 minutes away. Biel is on the doorstep of the Chasseral Regional Park, a huge expanse of national park and an outdoor lovers’ dream. The Parc Régional Chasseral as it is known in French is a national protectorate as there are many rare types of plants within the boundaries. A hike up here in the spring will reward you with yellow and white flowers as far as the eye can see. There are Alpine plants bursting out from behind rocks and If you wish to see more organised floral arrangements, the Bern Botanical Gardens are a mere 30 minutes away by car and offer plenty for flower lovers young and old. Of course, there are plenty of alpine plants on display here, as can best be expected. But there is also an excellent collection of exotic and non-native species as well. There are over 1500 species of Alpine plants and shrubs on display. There are also greenhouses housing exotic ferns and other heat loving shrubs, and a floral themed café at which you can sit back and relax after exploring.
