Mati City is a fifth class urban area in the Davao Oriental province. It has 26 barangays with a growing economy sustained by agriculture, foreign trading, tourism, and mining.
The naturistic spots of Mati are what’s bringing tourists into the area. The Sleeping Dinosaur (not an actual dinosaur!) is a land shaped like a dinosaur with its legs spread out at sea as if it’s sleeping on the water. Next is Dahican Beach. Tourists love its soft 7-kilometer stretch of white sand and enjoying skimboarding. Along with this beach, you may also come across a pawikan nursery. The pawikan are the endangered sea turtles that are usually swimming the oceans of the Philippines. It is where the sea turtles lay their eggs in private. Aside from skim boarding, there’s the ever popular surfing that one may want to try under the supervision of the instructor.
One may also choose to go island hopping, check out a lagoon and a mangrove park.
Frangipani or plumerias were found growing locally in Mati City. They are tropical flowers that came from Mexico to the Carribean. Sphinx moths are common pollinators of these flowers, and they can only do it at night time even though they produce no nectar. They multiply through cut flowers.
