The historic city of Kaifeng is known for its almost 3000 year old history. A former ancient capital, the city is now a bustling modern city, but visitors still flock from miles around to check out the important sites and learn about the area’s history. A stunning Iron Pagoda is a top attraction and dominates the surrounding area, as are the numerous old temples that are dotted around the city. There is also an interesting museum which showcases the best of the story of Kaifeng. If you wish to relax in some green outside space then the Millennium City Park is a great place to which to head. The park has a great imperial garden and there are lots of flowers and plants dotted around the lakes and buildings. Kaifeng City also holds an annual flower show – the event showcases the city flower the chrysanthemum. The festival lasts for an entire month with displays of millions of beautiful chrysanthemum, and was started in 1983 when Kaifeng adopted the flower as its own. With over 1300 unique varieties of the flower on display in the Dragon Park, it is THE festival to visit if you are in Kaifeng in the month of October.
