Famous for its cultural history and great music scene, Leipzig is also a popular destination for flower lovers. The city’s zoological garden has made conservation its focus and great strides have been taken to ensure that the animals are in a habitat that is natural and familiar to them. This has led to a variety of plants and flowers being brought in from around the world that include exotic bromeliads, orchids and delicate lacy ferns. The Leipzig Botanical Garden is centered on research and visitors can wander among the beds and greenhouses taking in all of the native and imported plants. Roses and rhododendrons can be found growing wild and in beautifully landscaped flower beds, along with an assortment of daisies and mums. Tulips, snowdrops and edelweiss can be seen blooming in the springtime, here and at the zoological gardens. Other popular flowers frequently found growing in Leipzig include scented lavender, chamomile and narcissus. Star jasmine is also becoming a favorite with residents, especially since the woody vine is relatively resistant to the city’s cold winters.
