Port Macquarie is a beach lovers paradise. Beach sports are the activities of choice here, including surfing, scuba diving and windsurfing. The weather is usually pretty good so you can be sure to be able to partake in many different sports. This is a favorite holiday spot for local Australians and tourists alike. If you don't fancy being so active why not take on a spot of fine dining, wining or shopping. For those who however fancy remaining in the great outdoors then Port Macquarie is a great base to explore. Those who love wildflowers have a great number of attractions on the doorstep. The Kattang Nature Reserve is a mere hour away. In the winter and spring months the reserve is home to a vibrant collection of flowers. This includes gorgeous orchids as well as boronia. Elsewhere, Grants Beach Coastal Walk is a fabulous place at which to take in some sea air and catch some plants native to swamp life. For the best wildflowers however head on over to Diamond Head Loop Walk - this is one of the regions best known and loved wildflower trails. The heath is often fully loaded with gorgeous wildflowers, as is the Mermaid Outlook Track which boasts floral attractions from May right through to autumn. Elsewhere, the Laurieton Track at the Doorgan National Park has some gorgeous ferns as well as palm trees. The Rainforest Trail here is home to a bunch of native plants that thrive in a tropical rainforest and makes for a great walk with all the family. If you are heading to Port Macquarie you must bring your camera - and potentially a picnic - so that you can enjoy the area with the clan. As with many wildflower-viewing locations, the spring months are the best time to head here to catch the floral views.
