Flower lovers have plenty of places to explore in Newcastle. Check out Jesmond Dene, a pleasant place for a stroll in the nicer weather. The nature trail boasts plenty of beautiful floral walks and wildflower spotting opportunities in the spring. Belsay Hall has a beautiful flower garden of well-manicured flower beds and spectacular lawns connecting the castle to the mansion house. Nearby Seaton Delaval Hall is another popular spot at which to see flowers, with beautiful gardens and hedges and displays of rhododendrons in the summer months. Unfortunately Newcastle Upon Tyne does not have a botanic gardens to explore - Moorbank Botanic Gardens was closed down when the lease was not renewed but nearby Durham has a pleasant Botanic Garden open to the public and run by the University. There is a bamboo grove here, as are the greenhouses, outside of which you will find stunning displays of tulips in the summer months. Indoors features a great selection of exotic and rare plants.
There are lots of things to do in Newcastle Upon Tyne. With excellent shopping, dining and entertainment facilities, Newcastle Upon Tyne is a great place to spend a weekend with friends and family. Explore the Victoria Tunnel for example, once used as an air raid shelter beneath the city, or take the kids to the Life Science Centre or the Discovery Museum. There is also the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art at which you can spend a few hours as well. The Quayside Area boasts some striking buildings of historical merit, and of course the Tyne Bridges are worth checking out for a photograph. Newcastle Castle is a must see, as you can explore the secret passageways and chambers, and St Nicholas Cathedral is worth a look as well if you are in the city. For shopping, head to Eldon Square Shopping Centre, and don’t forget the Great North Museum.
