In Swindon there is a brilliant group of colourful flower gardens called TWIGS Community Gardens. They are designed to be a resource for local people who are dealing with mental health issues to help them learn new skills, and as a result develop more self esteem and self confidence. They do raise money through the sales of plants and other related items to support the gardens.

They also hire out the gardens for parties. Here’s the list so you can make your choice of which one you like the best.

The Cottage Garden

This is a traditional Cottage Garden with the classic brick pathway, living willow hedges, perennial flowers, annual blooms, and conventional garden shrubs. The exceptionally gorgeous elder shrubs mark the far end of the garden with their gold and deep purple leaves.

The Faith Garden

The faith garden specifically combines elements from the Pagan, Buddhist, Sikh, Christian, Hindu, Baha’I and Muslim faiths. The garden is designed to provide a space for everyone to dwell on their own spirituality.

The Japanese Garden

The garden is inspired by Japanese gardens but the plants are not from Japan. It does include a Japanese Ginkgo biloba tree that becomes an incredible shade of yellow every autumn.

The Path of Life Garden

This garden includes a serpentine path that runs through the flowers that are planted specifically to evoke a mood. Colour and texture are used to symbolise the journey made from crisis on to recovery.

The Physic Garden

This garden is full of 16 different herbs, not only for food but for emotional and spiritual well being, too. The overall design is a cross within the square, that is encompassed by a circle.

The Potager Garden

This garden demonstrates how you can create productive gardens that are beautiful, too.

The Wildlife Friendly Garden

This garden shows how you can create a garden that is wildlife friendly. The balance between the human gardeners and wildlife does not need to look like untended wilderness.
