This area of Australia is simply stunning, with green vegetation stretching as far as the eye can see! If you like to see local flora and fauna then this a great place to stop as there are lots of options to check out. The area is known for having great restaurants and a vibrant food scene, and there is also quite a bit of history to explore. Check out the Bridgewater Mill, which was built in the 19th century, or visit the Applewood Distillery. For those who love the great outdoors then Adelaide hills is a perfect base from which to explore the many national parks in the area. Take the kids first to the Cleland Wildlife Park to check out all sorts of animals native to Australia. If you want to see some flowers and shrubs then perhaps a trip to the summit of Mount Lofty is in order. A hike up here (around two kilometers from the Cleland Wildlife Park) will reward with stunning displays of wildflowers year round. Here you can find the orchids and shrub violets in abundance - the native spotted donkey orchid is one to watch out for. Elsewhere in South Australia the Clare Valley is also a great place for flower spotting with displays of blue fairies as well as red parrot peas. If you want to try your hand at growing some of your own Australian flowers then a visit to the greenhouses at Belair National Park will help - staff will assist you to pick up some native plants and flowers for transport back home. Finally, a visit to Mount Remarkable National Park or the Innamincka Regional Reserve boasts lovely daisies and geraniums in the early season along by the river. In fact, there are more floral attraction than you can shake a stick at in Adelaide Hills!
