On the south coast of Devon one can find the city of Plymouth. Mixed in with the history, arts and cultural are several stunning gardens. Historic Saltram House takes visitors through its manicured garden which includes a variety of native plants and flowers. Pink and white roses bloom alongside red begonias and salvias. Blue lobelia covers the grounds of the beds, along with low growing yellow marigolds. Bearded and Siberian irises can be found blooming in the springtime, along with large hydrangeas. The Anthony House also contains several gardens both whimsical and traditional. There are 650 varieties of daylilies growing on the property, along with 100 acres of azaleas/rhododendrons. The Japanese pond is not only home to large koi fish, but also white and pink water lilies. Snowdrops and crocuses bloom in the springtime, along with bluebells and daffodils. The summer brings out the bright yellow roses, and when the weather is cooler the leaves on the cork oak trees begin to turn color. In the meadows along the coast one can find wild daisies, carnations and even larkspur. The occasional heather bush can also be seen blooming in the warmer months.
