Komsomolsk-on-Amur is a very young city of the Khabarovsk Territory. It is the administrative center of the Komsomolsky Municipal District, but it does not belong to it. The city received its name in honor of the detachment of Komsomol members, who founded the city on the site of the village of Perm and the Nanai settlement of Dzemgy. The second part of the name of the city arose because of its location on the banks of the Amur River.
The mountain ridges of Hummi and Miao-Chan, numerous tributaries of the Amur-Silinka, Black Key, Bol, surround Komsomolsk-on-Amur and others flow through the city. From a small town, Komsomolsk-on-Amur quickly developed into a large industrial city with a population of 248 thousand people. Near the city, there are three airports - Khurba, Dzemgi, and Pobeda. Railway and river transport is also developed. The leading industries of the city are shipbuilding, oil production, aircraft building, and metallurgy. On the territory of the city, there are such large enterprises as the plant Amurmetal, the aircraft building KnAAPO, producing various types of fuel KHPZ and others. Together with road transport, these enterprises are the main polluters of the environment of the city and its environs. Industrial waste merges into the Amur, worsening the not ideal state of the river. Frequent fires of surrounding forests worsen the air.
The climate of the city is a monsoon, with pronounced features of the continental. Winter is cold and long, and summer is very hot or rainy. Not everyone can withstand such a climate. Fortunately, it does not interfere with the vegetable world of the city and its surroundings. The forests around the city abound in motley grass and flowers. In late April and early May, the hillsides are covered with a purple-pink carpet from the blossoming Dahurian rhododendron. It appears before all other flowers, and it is often broken into bouquets. But the rhododendron is a medicinal plant and a medon. Another early flower is the Amur adonis, also called Goricvet, because of its bright, beautiful flowers, which are so noticeable on the snow that has not yet melted. Despite the fact that this plant is listed in the Red Book, it is harvested for commercial purposes, reducing its already not very large population. Just immediately after these wonderful flowers, there is another messenger of spring, the Dahurian chamber, whose flowers look like purple tulips. People call it dream-grass for drooping, like sleeping flowers.
Because of the rather severe climate in the city, there are not so many flowers as in his southern brethren. However, thanks to agronomists MUP "Spetsavtohozyaistvo", every year on the flower beds of Komsomolsk-on the Amur plant unpretentious marigolds, red and white geraniums, ornamental cabbage and petunia.
