Yamaguchi city is the capital of the province of the same name, and the city boasts several pretty and interesting temples to explore. The Rurikoji Temple is of particular note, with its 5 floors and beautiful grounds. Elsewhere, there is an interesting arts centre and several fun festivals throughout the year. The Yamaguchi Flower Land is a fantastic place in which to spend an afternoon no matter what the season. Depending on the time of year you can see lovely pansies and rape flowers, as well as more formal gardens including the beautiful rose gardens. Tokiwa Park is another fantastic place in which to see flowers and plants in Yamaguchi. There are over three thousand magnificent cherry trees of many different species in this wonderful park, and they are a delight to behold in the cherry blossom season in early spring. Join in with the locals and partake in their favourite local pastime of hanami – watching the cherry blossoms fall is a purely wonderful thing to do. In the evenings during the cherry blossom festival the trees are lit up with little lights making for a truly magical experience.
