Bonn is an interesting place to visit and the first port of call for many exchange students when they arrive in Germany. The old capital of West Germany has an interesting history museum, as well as a modern art museum and the old Bonnminster Church. The old town hall is a stunning building and definitely worth a look, and there are several palaces in the wider area that make for a great day trip too. For those on the lookout for flowers, Bonn does not disappoint. The city of Bonn Botanic Gardens are a definite must-see. This university garden is perhaps Germany’s most stunning example of a formal garden, with over eleven thousand different types of plants and flowers on display here. An arboretum features a good selection of trees and wood-like plants, and the conservatory features a number of interesting tropical and exotic plants on display. You can also view lots of water lilies on the ponds as well, and take in lots of interesting plants and insects as you walk around the area. The Botanical Gardens are not the only place to see flowers and plants when in Bonn- in fact, the city is also a great place to visit in the spring when the cherry blossom trees are at their best. Heerstrasse in the city (better known as Cherry Blossom Avenue) is perhaps the best place in Bonn to see the cherry trees flowering in springtime. This delightful street is made even more special when the trees are in bloom, and the cobblestones make for a romantic atmosphere. You will likely be nearby if you fancy visiting the Beethoven House, so why not try and combine the two and visit in April when the trees are in full bloom - make sure your bring your camera with you!
