There are a variety of different areas to explore here and over eight thousand different types of plants and flowers to be enjoyed. The greenhouses on site are shelter for numerous interesting varieties of exotic plants and flowers. Along the trails visitors will be wowed by the formal flowerbeds or more casual arrangements, ponds and wildflowers. There is also an arboretum and an alpine garden with plants and shrubs from both the Pyrenees and Alps growing freely. Admission is free too so it is the perfect place for flower lovers to visit when in Muenster, and as the botanic gardens is over two hundred years old the well-established collections make for a real treat for any visitor. So, if you have the time to visit Muenster you absolutely must stop off at the Botanic Gardens for a real floral treat - if you can get there in the spring months it is definitely the best time to visit - you may be lucky enough to catch the stunning cherry blossoms in full bloom.
Gelsenkirchen is hardly top of many visitor’s lists, given that the area is more factories than fields, but look beyond the hard exterior and you will see there is plenty to do in the surrounding area. Schloss Horst is an interesting palace to explore if you are in Gelsenkirchen, and there is an interesting coal mine to explore in nearby Essen. There is an art museum too, and several monuments, museums and other activity centers dedicated to the area’s industrial past which are worth exploring if you are in to that sort of thing. If you are travelling with kids then the Moviepark is definitely well worth a visit. This theme park is set up into lots of different zones such as the Wild West or Los Angeles, and is a great place to spend a few hours with all the family. Schloss Beck nearby is another adventure park open for children and will enthrall those with younger kids perhaps better than Moviepark
