For flower lovers Halle Neustadt has botanic gardens run by the local university offers a touch of greenery in the city limits. This over three hundred year old botanic park is worth a visit if you have green fingers. There are over twelve thousand different types of plants and flowers here, half of which are exotic species and are housed in the massive greenhouses. There are alpine plant areas with flowers and shrubs from both the Pyrenees and the Alps, as well as an arboretum, a cactus house and a cold house for flowers that need to grow in specific conditions in order to thrive. If you are in Neustadt then do try to stop by and learn a little about the conservation of endangered plant species and to stop and look at the plants and flowers. Make sure to take your camera with you when you are there!
Halle Neustadt is far from a pretty place and is not a tourist destination, but a large housing project that could do with a new lease of life. Across the river however the old town of Halle offers the visitor plenty of things to see and do. The Marktkirche is a must see, and is perhaps the first place you should visit, before heading over to the Prehistory Museum. There is a chocolate factory here which opens its doors to the public and is well worth a visit if you are travelling with children, and is a great place to pick up some souvenirs too. The town square is the place to head for people watching, and hosts a daily market which is a great place at which to soak up the atmosphere and perhaps pick yourself up a bargain. The square is dominated with the red tower and elsewhere there is an interesting art museum.
