Situated in Hamburg, Marienthal is well placed to explore all that this major city has to offer. The canal area of Speicherstadt makes for an impressive sight, with the old storehouses each having their own story to tell. Others may prefer to head over to the Maritime History Museum and learn more about Hamburg and Marienthal’s seafaring past. Those travelling with children - and indeed those without - will also be delighted with Speicherstadts Miniature Wonderland which has lots of miniature towns from Germany, Austria, and Italy and beyond, including moving parts! It’s a real treat to behold when visiting Hamburg. Make sure you also take a tour of the harbor area by boat to get a really good vista of the city. For flowers and plants in Marienthal, head over to the impressive Planten un Blomen Park. This is a favorite spot at which to picnic, walk and enjoy pleasant summer days, and locals and visitors alike enjoy the scenic atmosphere in this park. Incorporating the city’s old botanical gardens, Planten um Blomen is a flower lover’s paradise. Aside from the outdoor attractions, there are five huge greenhouses on site, containing some really interesting exotic plants, palms and eucalyptus trees. There is a gorgeous rose garden which is at is best in the summer, as well as plenty of other pleasant flower beds along which to stroll in both the spring and summer months. The rose garden is actually home to over three hundred different varieties of roses. There is also a tiny museum explaining all about roses, and lots of pleasant romantic places to sit and enjoy their fragrant scents. Elsewhere in Planten um Blomen visitors will be enchanted with the Japanese garden and the associated tea house, and kids will enjoy the many different play areas.
