Hakodate Fiori Fiorista

On the southern tip of Hokkaido lies the city of Hakodate, a beautiful city with plenty of things to do for both visitors and locals alike. Pretty colonial era buildings abound, and several interesting catholic and orthodox churches are dotted around the city just waiting to be explored. Traditional Japanese architecture can also be viewed in Hakodate – the Higashi Honganjo Temple being one such example. The Red Brick Warehouses at Kanemore are also a lovely place to explore. Filled with restaurants and gift shops, the area is especially scenic during the Christmas period, when lights and a fabulous Christmas tree generate a festive vibe. Hakodate is also filled with plants and flowers and is a lovely place to explore. For stunning displays of Wisteria, head to Goryokaku Park in the late spring – the Park is also a great place to watch the cherry blossoms fall in April. A trip to the former British Consulate of Hakodate will delight with its splendid rose garden, and a hike up Mount Esan will reward with vibrant bursts of fabulous azalea. Don’t forget also Hakodate Park, a wonderful place for a stroll amongst the cherry trees in the spring and a great place to bring the entire family.
