Ichikawa is home to several malls and shopping centers and may not be a traditional place to visit when in the wider Tokyo area. However, Ichikawa is a great base to explore the nearby area. The area of Sumida plays host to the gorgeous and much-visited Mukojima Hyakkaen Flower Gardens which are frequented often by locals who like to watch the flowers falling off the cherry blossom trees in the spring. Ichikawa is also near to the city of Meguro which has a charming riverbank, again showcasing some gorgeous pink flowers in the cherry blossom months of early spring. The town is also home to the Meguro Sky Garden which really is something to see if you wish - there is a nice selection of flowers and plants here as well as lots of interesting shrubs, although the building itself is also worth a look for its’ architectural interest. Nearby Shinagawa is a pleasant and relaxed place too, especially for flower lovers who would enjoy sitting in the park watching the flowers and eating a picnic. And there is also the Mitaka-shi area which holds every year a wonderful cherry blossom festival, attracting visitors from far and wide who come to see the lit up cherry trees and their gorgeous flowers before the too-short season ends before their eyes. The festival is held in Nougyou Kouen Flower Park and enjoyed by all who attend.
