Daylily, Chinese bellflower, wild violets, sunflowers and hardy primroses grow in the wilds of Kiryū.
Daylilies look the part of other lilies with trumpet-like flowers that have tips thrown back, but they are not a part of the lillium family. Lilies grow from bulbs, but daylilies have soft roots instead. Wild violets, being small in size, cover the ground like a carpet or planted in containers instead. They require only minimal supervision, but gardeners must be wary of spider mites that can damage these flowers. People harvest Chinese bellflowers to use medicine, but only the roots undergo processing for treating flu, bronchitis, sore throat, and colds. Sunflowers continue to be popular because people keep finding uses for them throughout the years. These sunflowers seeds produced larger flowers from good breeding, manufactured for sunflower oil, and became a healthier alternative to animal lard. Hardy primroses are native to Japan and gardeners make use of them to border different types of gardens because of their small size and pretty colors.
